The Saturated Moisture Content of Chalk (SMC) test determines the point at which chalk has all of its pores fully filled with water. Because chalk has high microporosity, it can be extremely sensitive to moisture changes—making SMC testing a valuable tool for predicting how chalk will behave in real ground conditions.
